On-line yesterday, and in this mornings newspapers, the Daily Mail reported on Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe’s (head of London’s Metropolitan Police Service) statement that home-owners and commercial businesses alike should consider fitting CCTV systems to their premises to help assist police forces with crime scene footage against their 12 million images of suspects and offenders.
Heard by many on LBC radio, in a discussion between Beverley Turner (wife of Olympic rower James Cracknell) and the country’s most senior police officer, Howe. When challenged as to whether CCTV could be used to catch burglars — Howe outlined their latest campaign efforts and steps for home-owners and commercial businesses alike, to ramp up their security efforts and assist in safeguarding their premises.

Eye-level cameras can be bought and hidden in everyday objects
Cameras are motion sensitive and will record directly onto a built-in hard drive in the DVR — which can then be viewed remotely or on your system monitor
Once a burglars face is caught on film, it is uploaded to a police database where hi-tech facial recognition software compares it with the 12 million known suspects
As you will know, decent facial recognition in CCTV serves as a prosecution aide and helps to deter potential burglars from premises.
